Buckhannon Upshur Retail Merchants Association

Second Annual Merchatns Fall Shopping Event Another Success

BUCKHANNON, WV – The Buckhannon Upshur Retail Merchants Association held the second annual Merchants Fall Evening Shopping Event on Friday, October 16, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in downtown Buckhannon. The event was well received by the public. Despite the rain, the jazz and big band music created a “festive” atmosphere on the streets of downtown and enticed shoppers to begin their holiday shopping.

Most of the merchants participating provided refreshments and snacks during the evening in addition to some in-house specials. There was increased activity reported by 53.3% of the merchants and 94% were satisfied with the promotion and only wished we would have had better weather.

The event was covered by local media stations during the two weeks leading up to the event and broadcast live on 93.5 WBTQ from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Brad Allen, radio celebrity from WBTQ, braved the rain and visited some of the participating merchants to inform listeners about what Buckhannon has to offer and invited them downtown to enjoy the evening.

In all, fifteen businesses participated during the extended hours event.

BURMA would like to say "THANK YOU!"to all of the volunteers, to Laura Love and Brad Allen of WBTQ, The Sign Guy for the posters, Angelic Designs for media promotions, Whimsical Treasures for the balloon bouquets, and to all of the participating businesses. We look forward to sponsoring the event again in 2010.
