Four Fridays Before Christmas in Downtown Buckhannon, WV
BUCKHANNON, WV – The Buckhannon Upshur Retail Merchants Association ( BURMA) held the first Merchants Fall Evening Shopping Event on Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in downtown Buckhannon. The event was well received by the public. The festive music created a "homey" atmosphere on the streets of downtown and enticed shoppers to begin their holiday shopping. There was increased activity reported by 77.8% of the merchants and 88.9% were satisfied with the promotion.
From the overwhelming response, BURMA encouraged the downtown businesses to offer extended hours before the holidays arrive and participate in the Four Fridays Before Christmas event. Starting on Friday, November 28 th, 2008, participating businesses on Main Street will remain open throughout the evening until 8:00 p.m. The extended hours will continue each Friday through December 19 th, 2008. By offering extended shopping hours this holiday season, customers will be able to shop when it’s most convenient for them and their busy schedules.
